To book a massage appointment and have it covered by your health insurance check your policy to see if you need a prescription for massage first. Some plans such as Premera’s “Heritage Plus 1” do not require one. If you do need one, you will need to have it with you for your first visit. A prescription for massage can be obtained from your primary doctor or chiropractor . Request that the doctor or chiropractor write the prescription so that there is no expiration. This will make it easier to schedule your massage appointments convenient to your life without feeling like you need to rush through your massage treatment plan. An example of this would be to have the prescription written out for 10 visits. Sometimes the doctor or chiropractor will write it out for “ massage twice a week for 5 weeks”. That still is for 10 massages but the downside is that if five weeks goes by and you have only been able to use up 6 massages, you will have to go back and get another prescription written out.

Massage is usually subject to your yearly deductible as well. Once you have met the deductible, massage is covered and you pay a copay. If you have not met your deductible for the year, you can pay out of pocket for the massage visit at a 10% discount, and the amount will be applied to your deductible.
